Locarno 2024: looking she said I forget & 5 Dutch co-productions

The 77th edition of the Swiss festival is taking place from August 7 - 17 and includes 6 Dutch (co)-productions in its selection.

Still looking she said I forget - Naomi Pacifique

Looking she said I forget* by Swiss-Dutch director Naomi Pacifique and produced by Idle Eye will celebrate its world premiere in the Pardi di domani National Competition. The short film recounts the story of Lou, who, having just moved to Amsterdam, prepares her new apartment that she will share with her partner, Joel. For now though, Joel is on a trip with an intimate other. Confronted with the complexities of her non-monogamous relationship, Lou shifts her gaze to the rhythms of her new city.
Pacifique is no stranger to Locarno; her earlier short film after a room (2021) also had its world premiere at the festival and was awarded with the Pardino d'Argento.
We spoke to the director about her film before heading out to Locarno.

Several Dutch co-productions are also set to world premiere at Locarno. In the International Competition Wang Bing's feature documentary Youth (Hard Times)*, minority co-produced by Netherlands-based Volya Films and New Dawn Fades by Gürcan Keltek (NL minority co-prod. 29P Films) will compete for the Pardo d'oro.

Electric Child** by Swiss director Simon Jaquemet (NL minority co-prod. Revolver) is selected for the Piazza Grande section and Georgian director Tato Kotetishvili's Holy Electricity* (NL minority co-prod,. The Film Kitchen) screens in the Concorso Cineasti del Presente section.

In the Open Doors Screenings, with this year's focus on the Carribean, Central and South America, EAMI* (2022, dir. Paz Encina) a minority co-production by Revolver is included.
