Youth film at Giffoni

Giffoni Film Festival is running from July 19 to 28

A range of Dutch youth feature films is off to the largest European film festival for children and teenagers.

Still: Tummy Tom and the Lost Teddy Bear - Erik Verkerk & Joost van den Bosch

First in the Dutch line-up is the animated Tummy Tom and the Lost Teddy Bear, based on the much-loved children’s books of Jet Boeke. The film by Erik Verkerk and Joost van den Bosch is part of Elements +3, out of competition, and is produced by Phanta Animation with BosBros and Eyeworks Film & TV (sales by Incredible Film). SEE NL interviewed the directors duo when their film had a market screening at Annecy's MIFA earlier in June.

In The Book of Everything - with the help of a free spirited neighbour, his rebellious sister and the Lord Jesus himself - Thomas finds the courage to rebel against his father’s strict religious regime. Ineke Houtman's film is produced by FATT Productions and is included in Giffoni's Elements +10.

Mascha Halberstad's Fox and Hare Save the Forest** (prod. Submarine, sales Urban Distribution International) is in Elements +3, out of competition. The exciting animation was well received at the Berlinale, where it sold to 50+ countries ahead of its premiere. You can read the interview with Halberstad before heading to the German capital here.

When We Lost to the Germans* by Guido van Driel (prod. Family Affair Films) is part of Generator +13. Set in the summer of 1974 in an empty city with all their friends on holiday, Daan and Jonas have to make the most of it, but they are obsessed with Catootje who is gone.

Minority co-production Young Hearts** (Family Affair Films) is also in Generator +13. The film by Anthony Schatteman received a Special Mention from the jury in Berlinale's Generation Kplus. Sales are handled by Films Boutique

Lastly, another Family Affair Films production: Joren Molter's sweltering summer film Summer Brother**, in which 13-year-old Brian cares for his severely mentally disabled brother, is selected for Generator +18.
